No happy end to the home Grand Prix at the Sachsenring

The Grand Prix started in bright weather conditions and became hotter and hotter as Sunday’s 27-lap race approached.

CFMOTO Racing PruestelGP tried to get up to pace early on Friday Free Practice but could only make progress just before the Qualification outings on Saturday. Xavier Artigas ended-up with 16th place and Carlos Tatay in 17th.

On Sunday morning, the two CFMOTO riders went out of the pits wearing special fairing. Decorated with the signatures of the employees of PRÜSTEL Spedition GmbH. The campaign was connected to the charity run on Wednesday as a pre-event at the Sachsenring, where employees from PRÜSTEL company also ran around the traditional track for a good cause.

Sadly, Tatay’s prospects lasted only a few seconds on Sunday morning. Taking the inside line he could not avoid contact into Turn 1 and crashed into the gravel. Carlos was able to remount but circulated at the back of the field and retired with seven laps to go. Artigas fared much better. The Spaniard was part of the third group and pushed his way to 13th.

At the chequered flag Xavier Artigdas was able to obtain three world championship points. The new set of mathematics reveals that Tatay is 9th in the Moto3™ standings, Artigas is 11th and CFMOTO Racing PruestelGP are currently the 6th best team from the fifteen in the category.

Despite the heat battle, it was a successful weekend for our home circuit, the Sachsenring, because 232,202 visitors came to Hohenstein-Ernstthal spread over three days with an incredibly great response, and that was for the 95th anniversary of the racetrack. This is a record and should receive the highest recognition from all sides! The people around this sensational big event could clearly see how much they were looking forward to it after 2 years of pandemic situation. Many thanks to the organizers, the many volunteers, marshals, suppliers, rescue workers and and and… you can’t praise them enough.

The CFMOTO team are already packing their bags and gear again as they head straight to Assen for the TT Circuit Assen before MotoGP™ goes on a full month summer break.

#43 Xavier Artigas I P13

“13th at the team’s home Grand Prix and I recovered some pace and feeling on the track today but we’re still missing a bit to aim for our target. I know we will be ready for Assen, which is a place I love to attack. We’ll give 100% there and hope to progress through the weekend.”

#99 Carlos Tatay I DNF

“Honestly, a race to forget from what has been a complicated weekend. I made a good start but was braking too late for the first corner and made a mistake. I have to apologise to some of the other riders – as well as my team – because it was completely my fault. All I can do right now is think about Assen because it’s a track I really like. We’ll work hard from the very first lap to regain some good feelings in Holland.”
