Up-and-down weekend for Dirk Geiger in Portimao

Cuna de campeones PrüstelGP´s rider reached a good 18th in the second race of the season

After the disappointment of the first race, Dirk was determined to reach a good result in his second round with Cuna de Campeones PrüstelGP. His motivation lead him to be the author of a weekend of constant improvement.

After two free practice day on Friday and Saturday, he was able to improve his best time of one second in the second qualifying session, keeping a good pace despite the pain on the leg caused by the crash in Estoril. After a good warm up on Monday morning, he was motivated and focused on achieving his first points in the championship.

Started from the 23rd place of the grid, he was able to fight with the group at the beginning of the race. He managed to finishing 18th , happy with the result but not fully satisfied as the points represented a realistic results for him. The race was won by Pedro Acosta, in a all-spanish podium with Xavier Artigas and Dirk´s teammate, David Salvador.

Now the next opportunity to prove himself will be in Jerez at the end of August, a track that he knows pretty well and rode also with the 2020 Moto3 KTM bike for the Moto3 IRTA Official test.

Dirk Geiger #60, P18

The weekend has come to an end and overall it was a really weekend! I have been improved since the first session, also the qualifying was not bad. At the beginning I had a wobble and I had a lot of pain in my leg and I tried to find a solution. In the second qualifying I still had a bit of pain, but I was able to ride in 1:50:9 and it was really positive. I felt really motivated for the race, the warm up was also good. The start of the race was not the best but in the first lap I was eighteenth, I tried to follow the group in front of me but I couldn’t catch me so I had to ride most of the time on my own. I finished eighteenth: I am a bit disappointed because my aim were the points but I feel confident that I can achieve it in Jerez!!

Unfortunately the weekend started a bit tough as it was the first time in Portimao for Dirk and the track turned out to be very difficult. But he improved constantly and in QP2 he was able to reduce the gap to the top from 1.8sec to 1.6 compared to Estoril. After a good start in the race he was able to make up 5 places from his starting position, but unfortunately he was not able to keep up with the group in front of him and he rode alone most of the time, getting anyway a 18th place.
